Black Walnut Wood Charger Plates – Hand-Hewn Appalachian Hardwood
Each charger sold helps fund Hurricane Helene recovery — 100% of profits from this listing go directly to families across Appalachia still rebuilding.
Handcrafted black walnut wood charger plates, milled and finished one at a time in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia. Each piece is hand-shaped from downed Appalachian black walnut — reclaimed from trees that Hurricane Helene brought down across the region.
About the wood
Black walnut is the quiet heavyweight of American hardwoods: deep chocolate tones, chatoyant grain that catches light from different angles, and a density that feels substantial in the hand. Under a white dinner plate or a candle arrangement, the wood becomes the foundation of the whole tablescape.
These are not machine-perfect dinnerware accessories. Each charger is intentionally rough-hewn — you can see the tool marks, feel the coarse grain, and find small variations in thickness from piece to piece. That's the point. Walnut from a fallen tree carries its history, and smoothing that away would erase it.
Aged & dried
These walnut chargers are made from trees decimated during Hurricane Helene, then processed, aged, and dried in a controlled setting over multiple years. The hardwood is fully devoid of the moisture that would cause cracks to settle in over time. Built to last.
